Danish internet Forum

DIFO manages .dk

DIFO is short for Danish Internet Forum and was set up on 1 July 1999 as a non-profit organisation. DIFO's task is to administer the Danish part of the Internet (.dk) and determine the overall framework and terms. That covers domain names that end in .dk.

Members and ownership

DIFO consists of members that represent a wide range of the Danish Internet community, i.e. suppliers and professional and private users of the Internet. Furthermore, DIFO owns the subsidiary DK Hostmaster A/S which manages the operation of all domain names that end in .dk.

DIFO works within The Danish Act on Internet Domains

The Danish Act on Internet Domains provides the overall framework for DIFO's work. At DIFO, we have a number of tasks, including:

  • managing and determining the overall guidelines for the DK hostmaster function;
  • monitoring the administration and supervising the DK hostmaster function
  • determining the guidelines for assigning user rights to domain names ending in .dk
  • participating in national and international political work relating to domain names.
