DK Hostmaster launches hearing regarding new terms for having a .dk domain name

It has to be easier to understand ones rights and obligations when having a .dk domain name. Therefore, DK Hostmaster has started a comprehensive modernization of the terms that applies to the approximately 750.000 persons that are registrants of a .dk domain name. Now DK Hostmaster launches a public hearing that gives everyone in the Danish internet community the possibility to make their opinion known about DK Hostmasters initial draft of the new terms and conditions.

An essential improvement is that the new terms are more easily understandable and is now significantly shorter. For instance, the new terms are 10 pages instead of the current 36 page.

Focus on transparency

In addition, it is now clearer that registrants have a responsibility to ensure that their contact information are correct in DK Hostmasters self-service. This will strengthen the data quality in the public database on DK Hostmasters website, where everyone as a starting point can look up who is behind a given domain name. Transparency helps create a more secure and thus a more attractive Danish zone on the internet, and therefore this is an important improvement of the terms.

Fighting internet crime

Today the police and the courts are the most important players in the fight against internet crime. However, as a supplier of internet infrastructure, DK Hostmaster can also contribute to limit online crime. Therefore, the new terms clarifies DK Hostmasters possibilities to delete or suspend a domain name in those cases, where it makes sense that we intervene:

  • In case of so-called typo squatting
  • When a .dk domain name is being used to cheat people in connection with economic crime, phishing and malware
  • In case of very obvious and serious violations

Hearing during the summer

DK Hostmasters public hearing will last until August 20, 2017. All incoming responses will be read and taken under consideration in the last phase, where the terms will be finished. The new terms are expected to take effect in the end of the autumn 2017.
